Howells left fuming as offside goal is missed

OWN defender Jake Howells was left in no doubt what had cost Hatters a place in the Football League at the weekend, writes Mike Simmonds.

With the scores level at 1-1, a long throw was hurled into the Luton box, Jason Walker flicked on, and a clearly offside Matty Blair netted what turned out to be the winner.

The problem was the linesman somehow didn’t see the incident, despite being level with play, and the decision to let the goal stand, baffled Howells.

He said: “I’m absolutely gutted, I just can’t believe the lino’s not given it. I was watching it and just don’t know why he has not put his flag up.

“I went to talk to him and he wouldn’t talk to me. It’s up to the officials what they do, but they got it wrong.

“It’s such a big decision. We’re not a Football League club once again for another season and the linesman’s cost us.”
