Howells insists sparks are starting to fly at Kenilworth Road

The 22-year-old, who has already played under six managers during his time with Town, said: “The gaffer’s just bringing that extra spark to everyone that we haven’t had in a while and it feels that little bit different.

“Everything’s professional, well organised, just how it should be and it just feels like it’s on the way up.

“I’ve had a lot of managers at the club and a lot of pre-seasons, but I think this one’s a lot different to how I’ve been used to.”

Howells has played left-back in a couple of the pre-season friendlies so far, but more recently has been operating further forward, a role he is happier in, as he acknowledged his versatility can be a problem at times.
