With five minutes to go at Kingfield, the highly-rated 17-year-old striker, who penned his first professional deal last week, took to the field as Town were 4-0 to the good.

After the game, Banton tweeted: “One of the best moments making my first team debut as a substitute tonight.”

Speaking before the match, Banton, who has signed until 2015, had said: “This season I’m dying as soon as possible to make my debut.

“After that I want to get some appearances for the first team by the end of the season.”

The pacy young striker from Stevenage was originally discovered by arch rivals Watford, but pulled out of their Academy set-up at 10 after finding the obligations too intense.
