Hinckley are in hot water over Luton call off

HOT water was poured on to the pitch at Hinckley’s Greene King Stadium pitch in a desperate bid to get Saturday’s FA Trophy second round tie between Hinckley United and Luton Town on, writes Mark Wood.

The struggling Blue Square North side had failed to deploy any covers on the playing surface in the build-up as temperatures dipped below freezing the day before the game.

And with many Town supporters at the ground, the match was finally called off by referee Darren Bond at 1.45pm, an hour and a quarter before kick-off.

Upset Hatters managing director Gary Sweet said: “I feel really sorry for the supporters.

“It’s disappointing because we are only an hour and a bit down the road.”
