Hernia operations for both Fleetwood and Neilson

Town duo Scott Neilson and Stuart Fleetwood will both be going under the knife in a bid to cure hernia problems, writes Mike Simmonds.

Manager John Still confirmed the news in yesterday’s press conference as on Fleetwood, he said: “If he needs it done, let’s get it done.

“At this stage of the season, if we were up the top and we needed everyone, I might say don’t, we’re only going to play you if we need you, but I’m not sure we need to do that.

“We have Alex Wall, Andre Gray, (Scott) Rendell, John Shaw back in training as well, so we’re okay in that area.”

Fleetwood himself tweeted: “Sad to say that my hernia does need an operation. Tried to manage it for a few weeks but playing at 70% fitness is no good for the team or myself. Good luck to the lads at Wrexham on Saturday! I’ll be back.”

When asked if Neilson would be out for the rest of the season after undergoing a similar operation, Still said: “It looks that way. Maybe the tail end (he’d be back), but I don’t think he will.

“No core strength, that’s the reason you get these injuries, not being taught sometimes.

“One of the next things I’m going to do is there will be a fitness and conditioning guy coming in to be part of our team. That’s something I’m going to be working on as well, asap.”
