Henry wants fans to help Town remain unbeaten at home

Town host rock bottom Hyde this afternoon, and after Henry recently criticised a negative section of the Hatters’ fans, he feels they can now be one of their biggest weapons.

Speaking after last weekend’s 4-3 win over FC Halifax Town, he said: “Anything can happen, at home here with this support, we can be unbeaten here quite easily with that crowd behind us.

“I know you’re going to say we’re just saying that because of what I said last week, but I honestly believe the difference was magnificent.

“It just goes to show what tremendous support we’ve got and when we went to 3-1 down, they pushed us right on and got that result.

“It’s not easy coming here when the fans are with you for 90 minutes, it’s a horrible place to come.

“A lot of teams used to come here and after 20 minutes, if it’s 0-0 then hopefully get the fans to turn on us and they’ve won in a way.

“It’s not going to happen anymore. I think the fans are right behind us now and teams are not going to be able to put up with it.”

Just on what a fully supportive Kenilworth Road crowd means to the players, Henry continued: “When crowd combine with players and players realise the crowd’s behind us, players push on and they worked tremendously hard.

“It pushes us on, pushes them back towards their goal, it’s huge.

“When they really get going, it gets us going on the pitch and gives us a real lift.

“If a couple of players are feeling a bit leggy, it gives you a mental push, physically your legs go that extra yard, and it really pushes us on.”

First team coach Hakan Hayrettin echoed those thoughts too, saying: “We want everyone to be singing off the same sheet.

“We want the supporters to get behind us when we’re not playing well, when they think we’re not playing well.

“We’ve got ot be united in what we’re going to do, we can’t have one person pulling one way and the other pulling the other way, otherwise we’re going to fall off the ship.”

Although Town have not been at their best defensively in recent weeks, Henry wasn’t overly worried and is pleased with his own personal efforts at the other end of the pitch.

He said: “It’s going to happen.We’re not going to be immaculate every week.

“The lads have made mistakes, but they’re going to come back stronger from that.

“Lots of people say we were struggling to score goals, we knew with the strikers and players we had on the pitch, we can score.

“The gaffer told us not to turn down crosses, so every time we get to the by-line put the ball in the box.

“I’ve put in a couple that have led to a goal, so I’m delighted with that.”
