Henry satisfied with his showing at centre-half

Stand-in centre-half Ronnie Henry was pleased with his own performance despite Luton conceding three soft goal as they lost out to Championship side Millwall on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

The 29-year-old skipper has been a regular for Luton at right-back this season, but with Lathaniel Rowe-Turner suspended, Steve McNulty cup-tied and Town still waiting on international clearance for Wayne Thomas due to industrial action in Greece, he was forced to move into the centre to partner Janor Kovacs.

He said: “I enjoyed it. I felt I had a decent game. I’m talking to you here and we’ve conceded three goals so it’s a bit hard for me. Centre-half I don’t mind, right-back, wherever I’m told to play I’ll do a job to the best of my ability.

“It was a couple of mistakes for the goals. They scored first but we had chances to score goals and I think if we had scored one it would have really put them on the back foot and we could have probably got something out of the game.”

And he believes keeper David Forde’s heroics on the night could have proved decisive, adding: “The keeper played very well for them. A very experienced keeper and we knew we would to produce something good to beat him. He’s pulled off a few wonderful saves and if one of them had gone in I’m sure the crowd would have got behind us and they would have pushed us forward.”

Meanwhile, back-in-favour striker Scott Rendell got the feeling he was back in contention to lead the line against Millwall in the build-up to the game.

Goalscoring hero in the 1-0 win over Norwich City in the previous round, he twigged during training that he was likely to be involved on Saturday.

He said: “I think I knew Thursday when we done a bit of shape and that. I haven’t played in a little while, but I’ve been biding my time and working hard and the gaffer thought it would be right for me to play today.”
