Henry left embarrassed at Hatters’ Hereford defeat

Town battered their hosts from start to finish, but couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper James Bittner, as James McQuilkin’s wonder strike on 56 minutes, Bulls’ only real attempt of note on the night, proved to be the winner

Henry said: “They’ve only had one shot on our goal during the whole 90 minutes and it’s bent right in the corner.

“Then it was just us going forward and it was such a one-sided game. I’m sure I’ve been involved in a couple like that before in my career, but that was something else.

“It didn’t fall for us, they cleared off the line and in the end it was a bit embarrassing. They defended for their lives and as you see at the end, they were walking round clapping all the fans.

“On another day, we’d have got the three points and we definitely deserved the three points.

“I think everyone who watched the game will say it’s one of the most one-sided games they’ve seen.”

Henry himself gave another solid showing at right-back before being moved into central defence in the second half.

The former Stevenage full-back was heralded as a major signing during the summer and believes he is starting to hit something like his best form.

He continued: “When I first came here, I had a dodgy start, getting sent off. Now I’ve had a good run in the side, I’m playing well and am happy with my performances.

“The lads are working hard every day and we’re not far off it now.”

Boss Paul Buckle has continued to strengthen his side, with the addition of York City midfielder Jonathan Smith on loan this week, and Henry has been impressed with the squad building, as the likes of Simon Ainge and Arnaud Mendy have arrived too.

He said: “They fit in the team very well and are good lads off the pitch which helps.

“They play the way we want to play and have got on with their job. You’ve seen with Jonathan Smith who has just come in and done very well.”

The defeat saw Hatters drop to third in the table, four points behind leaders Newport County, and have another crucial clash with surprise package Dartford at Kenilworth Road on Saturday as Henry added: “If we didn’t deserve to win that game (Hereford), we’ve got to admit that, but to come away with nothing, we have to pick ourselves up and get on with it.

“We’ve got a massive game at home to Dartford now and we have to move on.”
