Henry: Complacency not an issue for Hatters

There is no danger of Hatters’ players getting complacent with the Skrill Premier title now in their sights according to skipper Ronnie Henry, writes Mike Simmonds.

Town currently head the table by a massive 14 points from nearest rivals Cambridge United, with a number of other side’s already declaring the Kenilworth Road side as champions elect.

But when asked if the squad needed to be warned about taking promotion for granted, Henry said: “Of course you don’t, I think the players are focused on what we’ve got to do at the moment.

“We’re all heading in the right direction, they know what they want, complacency doesn’t creep in.

“Even if it did a little bit, the gaffer wouldn’t let it happen. So fair play to the players, they are going out to win games and get to where we want to be.”

When boss John Still was asked about he could guard against any potential complacency within the squad, he said: “I think it’s reminding players of why you’re in the position they’re in.

“The reasons we are is that every week we go out and play with a high tempo, we keep the ball moving, touch pass, pass move.

“We defend strongly, we take every opportunity to pass and move and if we stop doing some of those things, that might be classed as complacency because we think we can do something else.

“Well, we don’t train at doing other things, we train at doing exactly what we do.

“So if they start to do something foreign that could be classed as complacency. But I hope the work that we do and how we do it doesn’t allow for that.”

Still was quick to remind his side of just what had got them into the position they are during Tuesday night’s 5-0 hammering of Wrexham.

He added: “People can get complacent if you let them. I said that I think we’ve played better in other games than we did in the first half the other night.

“I didn’t want to sound like I was being critical of the team, but just trying to remind everyone, we’re not going to be great for 90 minutes every week and I told the players that.

“I just felt we could have shut down the opposition a little better, second half we did it, but going forward we were fantastic.”
