Hayrettin raves as Hatters see off Cobblers

Hatters first team coach Hakan Hayrettin was delighted with Town’s development squad as they came from 2-0 down to beat League Two Northampton Town on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cobblers had scored twice in the first of three 30-minute thirds, including a fabulous strike from 35 yards.

However, the Town reduced the deficit in the second third when Matt Robinson was fouled in the penalty area and Alex Wall smashed home the resultant spot-kick.

In the final five minutes, striker Jon Shaw levelled the scores with a fine curling strike with five minutes to go before Banton show quick feet to fire home the winner with time running out.

Hayrettin told the club’s official website: “It was a real game of three thirds. We lost the first 2-0, won the second 1-0 and won the third 2-0.

“We want that winning mentality instilled in every player and, especially in the final 30 minutes, we showed that.

“Elliot Justham was terrific throughout. Goalkeepers don’t often get the credit they’re due and he was magnificent.

“Anthony Charles played a full 90 minutes without any problems which is great news and Jon Shaw capped a very positive half-an-hour with a goal.

“It’s another win against a Football League club which can only do wonders for the players’ confidence.

“The players know that good performances in these games do get noticed by the manager, as shown by John Still’s selection policy already this season. We want a squad full of hungry players champing at the bit to muscle themselves into the first team.”
