Hayrettin delight by Hatters’ winning habits

Hatters first team coach Hakan Hayrettin was satisfied that Town continued to show their good habits during last night’s 1-0 pre-season win against Histon, writes Mike Simmonds.

Luton huffed and puffed for long periods against their Blue Square North opponents, but kept another clean sheet, and produced a winner late on thanks to young substitute Zane Banton.

Hayrettin said: “Anything we that we do here is good habits, especially when you come to places like this.

“I’ve said it before, but they’re going to raise their game and it’s about making sure that we’re ready for the 10th (of August), making sure enough people have got minutes under their belts and making sure people do the right things in the right areas, which we did.

“The attitude of the boys in pre-season has been spot on and that’s what we want, winning habits.

“If we can install that into them, then it may not have been the best of the performances but we got through.”

Defender Danny Fitzsimons made his first appearance of pre-season against his former club, while the likes of Anthony Charles and Andrew Parry both gained valauble minutes too.

Hayrettin added: “It was great to see Danny get his 90 minutes, he’s a player who’s got a great attitude.

“He wants to be a professional footballer, leads his life as if he’s a professional footballer and does everything right.

“He had an injury in Portugal but I’m so pleased for him to get his 90 minutes against his old club. I said to him, he deserves that, and he thoroughly does.

“Anthony Charles has missed some of pre-season, so it was good to see him out there too. He’s a very experienced defender, while Andrew Parry, who I think has got great feet and a great attitude, did well too.

“It’s all encouraging as it’s always difficult to come to a club like Histon. They’re going to raise their game and the atmosphere might be a little bit dull and down, but the boys put in a very good performance.”
