Henry left Kenilworth Road after failing to agree a new deal and has linked up with Stevenage.

O’Donnell, now plying his trade at Gateshead, said: “Ronnie was probably the best captain I’ve played under.

“All the lads young and old have massive, massive respect for him and you can see that when he left.

“He had his own way of doing things, as he confronted that fan back when we played Lincoln at home.

“That’s what Ronnie thought was right and if Ronnie thought something was right and believed in it, he stood by it.

“He was a massive character in the changing room. It will be hard to replace him, as he was brilliant with all the boys, brilliant on the pitch.

“Losing Ronnie will be as crucial in my opinion as losing Andre (Gray).

“Andre scored the goals, but Ronnie did keep everything together on and off the pitch.”
