Hatters U18s earn draw with Gills

LUTON Town’s U18s rounded off their season with a 1-1 draw against Gillingham at Ely Way in the Youth Alliance East Division on Saturday morning.

Mason Blake returned to Town’s start line-up following six weeks out through injury and both Jordan Davis and Newman Carney took their places on the bench after lengthy spells on the sidelines – six months in the case of Carney after his leg break in the FA Youth Cup tie at Dereham in September 2011.

The Hatters started well and played some excellent passing football and deservedly took the lead in the 17th minute when Alasan Ann showed good power and strength to break through the Gillingham back line to finish from 10 yards.

Gillingham came out in the second half with renewed vigour and were the better side as they were rewarded on 68 minutes when a ball into the box was punched out by Ben Barnes only for the visitors to react first and lob into the empty net.

Hatters: Barnes, Longden, Jibodu (C), Nash, Ferguson, Stephens, Blake, Woolley (Davis 68), Ann, Banton (Carney 79), Maguraushe (Burtenshaw 85).

Subs not used: Carpenter, Chabata.
