Hatters tipped to hit back against Wrexham

Luton were brought back down to earth with a bump last weekend with a 3-0 hiding at Alfreton; few would have predicted such a scoreline as many coupons bit the dust with that shock result.

The Hatters were made to look anything other than title favourites and were eased to 2-1 at BetVictor with 10-11 the price on offer for promotion. That said they are only two points from the summit of the League although it looks as if it will be another rocky ride this season for the Hatters’ faithful.

Jon Shaw is likely to return to the starting line up this weekend when the Conference game of the day will see Wrexham visit Kenilworth Road in a real clash of the titans; the striker is 5/1 to grab the opener the same price as Stuart Fleetwood with Brett Ormerod at 7/1.

Town are 11/10 favourites to pick up maximum points on home soil with the draw 5/2 and Wrexham 27/10 in a match that already looks the proverbial six pointer.

The Dragons started the season poorly but a run of four consecutive wins has seen then leapfrog Luton into third place in the table and title odds contract to 9/2 with 15/8 for promotion.

Player manager Andy Morrell and fellow striker Danny Wright (15/2 and 13/2 respectively to score the opener) both bagged a brace last week in the very impressive demolition of Cambridge United at the Abbey.

Both can be backed at 40-1 to lift the Golden Boot where the big mover of the week was Woking hotshot Bradley Bubb who hit four in the 6-1 thrashing of Nuneaton and is now 25-1 to top the final scoring charts.

Note that Shaw is also 25s to be the Conference leading scorer with Stuart Fleetwood remaining the 7/2 favourite.

Elsewhere the early pace-setters Newport look to regain winning ways after two defeats and a draw. They make the long trek to Barrow where the home team will be buoyant after a fine 3-1 victory at Tamworth last Saturday; that victory failed to see them move away from the bottom four and they remain 8/11 with BetVictor to finish the season there.

Odds of 5/4 look eye-catching enough about County to get back on the winning trail.

Forest Green slipped to second after defeat at Grimsby where we highlighted they would find it tough. The Mariners are sure to be involved at the business end of the season and 11/8 about them finishing in the top five looks excellent value.

Alfreton are 5/1 to follow up last weeks excellent win over Luton and take another maximum haul at Forest Green with the hosts 8/13 and a stalemate 11/4. Grimsby have been inconsistent this term but are fancied at 5/4 to win at bottom outfit Kidderminster who have yet to register a win this season.

The live tea-time game on Premier Sports is Cambridge United v Telford with both teams struggling to make a playoff push. The U’s showed enough in defeat at Luton recently to suggest even money is worth taking and they can start a bid for a top five berth at the expense of the Shropshire men.

In the Premier League, John Terry is likely to miss the West London Derby between QPR and Chelsea which might be a blessing in disguise given the background to the game.

Chelsea had their limitations exposed in the European Super Cup in Monaco and I think Rangers can nick at least a point at Loftus Road. The Champions League holders are 5/6 to gain all three points with the Hoops 4/1 and the draw at 13/5.
