Moments after Gray had given Town the lead after the break, the players fled from the pitch as they were hit by a torrential downpour and thunderstorm.

“Luckily it’s stopped and we’ve got through and we’ve won 3-0 and we’re top of the league.”

Late substitute David Martin revealed he had never experienced a mid-game stoppage like it in his career either.

The winger didn’t return with the others to the changing rooms, as he added: “I didn’t go back in the dressing room, I imagine the boys will have just kept themselves pumped up and.

“The job was to go out there and win the match and that’s what they did.”
