Hatters target signs for Crewe Alexandra

Luton Town have missed out on the signature of French right-back Thierry Audel after he signed for Crewe Alexandra.

Both boss John Still and managing director Gary Sweet admitted Hatters were interested in signing the out-of-contract 26-year-old Macclesfield Town man who can also play in central defence, but he has instead penned a two-year deal with the League One Railwaymen.

Port Vale and Notts County were also rumoured to be interested in the 6ft 2ins defender who had previously been on trial at Luton, playing against Arlesey Town in the Beds Senior Cup.

On signing for Crewe, Audel said: “I am really happy to have signed for Crewe. It is my first chance to play league football in England and experience a new culture.

“I am a player who likes to give 100 per cent for the team and I know Crewe play in the style I like. They play football and they develop good young players, who are technically good. I will look to adapt as soon as I possibly can and do my best for the club.”
