Ex-Hatter Ainge had a mixed afternoon for FC Halifax Town, scoring the Shaymen’s second, but sometimes struggling in defence as the visitors surrendered a 3-1 lead.

Gray was a constant threat for Luton, scoring Town’s third in a frenetic, action-packed game. He said: “Last time I played against him I was at Hinckley and he was at Guiseley so it’s shown how far we’ve come that we’re playing in this league and hopefully we can both kick on again and get out of this league.”

The pair enjoyed some banter in the lead-up to the game, as Gray said: “I spoke to him yesterday, but when it comes down to the football pitch it’s business and we do our friendship off the pitch.
