Hatters rated v Southport

Kevin Pilkington: 5 – Really wasn’t his day. Deceived by the wind for the first, exposed by the defence for the second and his luck was completely out with the third.

Dan Gleeson: 5.5 – Given a torrid time by the lively Whalley and seemed to struggle with his pace.

Greg Taylor: 6.5 – Great header to set up Town’s first and got forward to give Luton some badly needed width.

George Pilkington: 6.5 – Too easily muscled off the ball for Southport’s second but stuck to his task manfully in very testing conditions.

Alex Lawless: 6 – Sat deep as ordered and did nothing wrong, but needed to be more involved.

Danny Crow: 6.5 – Diminutive striker took his goal well and knitted play together, but should have won it at the death.

Aaron O’Connor: 6.5 – Took his goal well and his pace posed Southport problems, but could have been even more effective.

Jake Howells: 7.5 – Standout performer and pulled the strings all over the pitch for the Hatters.

John Paul Kissock: 6.5 (pictured) – Full of tricks, but was often crowded out and lost his cool when substituted.

Adam Watkins: 6.5 – Started superbly, moment of magic for the goal, but faded out of the game for long periods.

Janos Kovacs: 6.5 – Sold himself for Southport’s second and struggled to stamp his authority on a game dictated to by conditions.

Amari Morgan-Smith (sub): 6.5 – Has been badly missed and mixed his direct athleticism with good skill.
