Keith Keane: 6 – Looked to get stuck in but Town increasingly lost the midfield battle.

George Pilkington: 7 – Several telling challenges helped to keep the Tynesiders out.

Alex Lawless: 5.5 – Largely on the periphery as Luton were overrun in the middle.

Robbie Willmott: 5.5 – Started off in lively fashion but faded and was replaced.

Stuart Fleetwood: 6.5 – Ran tirelessly, especially in the first half, but had little support, although should have done better with the chances he had.

Jake Howells: 5.5 – Not the best of evenings for the young Welshman who struggled to get forward.

Curtis Osano: 7.5 – Has discovered a reassuring consistency, strong in the tackle and his gambles paid off.

Andre Gray: 5 – Never got into the game and seemed to be lacking energy.

Adam Watkins: 5 – Largely muscled out of proceedings and couldn’t make his quality tell.

Janos Kovacs: 6.5 – Competed manfully but not at his dominant best.

Godfrey Poku (sub): 5 –Injury forced him off before he could make an impact.

Greg Taylor (sub): 5 – Added some thrust but spared the ignominy of late own goal by Tyler’s save.

Craig McAllister (sub): 6 – Aerial ability made a real difference.
