Hatters rated v Cambridge United

Mark Tyler: 6 – Unsighted for the first goal and no chance with the second. Largely routine saves as he was pressurised at set-pieces.

Lathaniel Rowe-Turner: 6 – Defended solidly but offered not real support to the winger in front of him.

Steve McNulty: 7 – Competed for everything against an uncompromising Cambridge strikeforce that posed the Hatters plenty of questions.

Jon Shaw: 6.5 – Well-marshalled by the U’s defence but took his one chance, although he lost his man for Cambridge’s second goal.

Jake Howells: 6.5 – Struggled on the right flank, but when he got the ball down he looked to play football.

Simon Ainge: 6 – Strong and uncompromising but struggles at full-back when his man looks to skip round him.

David Martin: 6.5 – Lively throughout as he constantly threatened the U’s defence, but needs more quality to his final ball – like the one that set up Shaw for his equaliser.

Jonathan Smith: 6 – Full of energy but didn’t win enough ball and when he have it he was always in too much of a rush to get rid of it.

Andre Gray: 6.5 – Manhandled throughout and given little respite by the officials, but when he did get free looked dangerous.

Jake Goodman: 6.5 – Stuck to his task well and the challenge of the U’s strikers will have stood him in good stead for the nature of the non-league game.

Solomon Taiwo. 7 – Caught in possession too often, but has a real eye for a pass and netted a superb penalty.

Alex Wall (sub): 5.5 – Introduction seemed to unbalance the Hatters as the U’s finished the stronger.
