Hatters rated v Cambridge

Kevin Pilkington: 7 – Several decent stops but given no chance by the goal.

Greg Taylor: 6.5 – Big and strong, but didn’t look entirely natural at left-back, although he was up against a fine winger in the shape of Carew.

George Pilkington: 6.5 – Did well to keep getting a piece of his body in when needed as he was kept busy all afternoon by Cambridge’s lively strikeforce.

Alex Lawless: 6.5 – Picking up the pace after his broken hand but still has much more to offer.

Stuart Fleetwood: 7 – Looked much more like the striker Luton had hoped they’d signed, direct run and good finish for his goal.

Aaron O’Connor: 7 – Lightning pace but lacked composure and touch when he most needed it.

Jake Howells: 7 – Grew as the game wore on, but needs to be more involved from his advanced position.

Curtis Osano: 6.5 – Mixed afternoon as he sometimes threatened, while intermittently looked frail defensively.

James Dance: 7.5 – Brave show from Town’s wounded hero who offered most of Luton’s guile from midfield.

Jamie Hand: 6.5 – Kept it simple in the middle, but perhaps should have tried his luck when afforded the opportunity to shoot.

Janos Kovacs: 6.5 – Battered by the U’s attack and made the odd error, but stuck to his task well and made a couple of vital headed clearances.

Ryan Brunt (sub): 5 – Showed his naivety at least once and it’s still too early to say how good he could be.

Adam Watkins (sub): 5 – Got his head up whenever possible, but his spell was too brief.
