Hatters plan pitch inspection ahead of Wrexham clash

Luton Town have confirmed they will hold a pitch inspection at 8.30am in the morning ahead of tomorrow’s Skrill Premier clash with Wrexham, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Kenilworth Road surface has taken quite a soaking in recent weeks, but was playable for Cambridge United’s visit in the FA Trophy on Tuesday evening.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “The pitch is in a saturated state following the recent heavy downpours over the past few weeks and a local referee will inspect the surface on Saturday.

“This will allow the Wrexham team, and their supporters, an early indication of whether they should make the journey south.”

Speaking after the match, Town assistant boss Terry Harris said: “When you’re on it, the water levels beneath it must be very, very high because it’s very squelchy, very boggy.

“I don’t know what the forecast is, but they’ll be forking it as Richard (Bird) and Roger are good people. They’ll make sure we’ve got a good pitch on Saturday.”
