Hatters memories entice Charles to Kenilworth Road

Childhood memories of the Hatters helped Luton to secure the signature of experienced centre-half Anthony Charles last week, writes Mark Wood.

The 32-year-old defender has well over 300 senior appearances to his name and signed a one-year-deal.

On his reasons for joining Town, he said: “For me Luton was a club I was really aware of growing up.

“It’s a very good opportunity for myself to play for a club the size of Luton, it won’t happen to too many people to be honest.

“There was no real rush, I wanted to come. I spoke to the gaffer and know what he has achieved. It was quite an easy decision after that.”

Although agreeing a 12-month contract, Charles hopes to be part of Town’s long-term success and with so many players without clubs this summer, the former Aldershot and Barnet defender didn’t feel he could play the waiting game.
