The forward was only on the pitch for 19 minutes after replacing Mark Cullen, when he caught Red Dragons defender Ashton with a high boot and was dismissed.

In the aftermath, Wall appeared to tread on his opponent, but he took to Twitter to deny this, saying: “For all your information i was sent off for a high foot not a stamp, i didnt stamp on him i was simply off balance.”

Manager John Still also confirmed to the media afterwards that the forward, who had only just returned from injury was in fact red carded for the original challenge and that the club may appeal the decision.

He said: “I spoke to the referee, he’s given it for the high foot.

“I’ve never seen that before. It wasn’t a stamp, never been a stamp, he gave it for a high foot, I can’t see that, I can’t understand that.

“Alex said he’s never even seen him coming, he tried to bring the ball down and the fella’s come in.

“He said he was looking at the ball and put my foot up and he’s just come in with his head, things tangled and I’ve tried to get out the way. The ref came over and said dangerous play, high foot.

“I’ll have to have a look at that as normally a high boot is a booking. I just checked with him (referee) as I heard someone say did he stamp on him and the ref said he sent him off for a high foot, so we’ll have to have a look at it on the DVD.

“I’ll have to have a look at it in the morning. It was so quick when it happened and you can’t always tell. His foot was high and he’s caught the player I’ve got no problems with that, but I’ve never seen someone sent off for a high foot.

“It’s disappointing for him as it’s been so long getting him back, so that’s disappointing, but there nothing we can do about it, we can only control the controllables.
