Hatters manager smells team spirit in Portugal

A PORTUGUESE training camp is proving ideal preparation for next season according to Town chief Paul Buckle, writes Mark Wood.

The Luton manager has been delighted with the ‘banter and atmosphere’ the trip has fostered amongst his players.

He said: “It’s fantastic, we’re at a really professional setting and the training facilities are excellent.

“We’ve got everything we need. Top gym equipment, weights and an Olympic-sized pool.

“We’ve got a good surface to work on. We are working hard from eight o’clock in the morning to 12 and then out of the sun, before training in the afternoon again.

“They’ve given me everything. They really have.

“They’ve come back in good shape.

“We are trying to play a high tempo game this season and not giving teams time or space. If we are going to do that we need to be fit.”

Town flew out on Sunday and return tomorrow (Friday) ready for their forthcoming pre-season schedule.

Buckle added: “The footballs are out as we’ve got our first pre-season game when we come back.

“We worked very hard the week before and now everything’s with the ball. The players have got good rest time and time to catch up and get to know each other.

“We’ve got new personnel and ways and styles on the field. It’s about knitting that all together and it’s been an invaluable week for us.”
