Hatters in a hurry to sink Fleet

BREAKING down Ebbsfleet will again be the task the Hatters face when the Blue Square Bet Premier mid-table side visit Kenilworth Road this season, writes Mark Wood.

New Hatters boss Paul Buckle is looking for his side to go for the jugular tonight to get the home fans behind his side from the off.

He said: “We want to try and take the game to Ebbsfleet, like we done against Hayes and like we done first half on Saturday.

“It’s about being positive and getting on the front foot as quickly as possible and I’m sure our fans will react to that.

“They did in the last home game where we were pressing from the front and getting blocks in and doing the nasty side.

“The fans really got behind the side and we’ve got to start like that and I’m always confident we can score goals.

“It’s up to us to go and break it down though. It’s all the other managers and all the others teams’ prerogative to do what they’ve got to do to try and stop us.

“What we’ve got to do, we’ve got to believe in ourselves, understand how we’ve done the last two games which has been really good and carry that on and try and be better.

“We’ve always got to try and be better. If we can get the performance levels as high as they’ve been the last two games then we will go close to winning the game.”

With Fleet’s Conference status assured for next season there is the possibility they could play with more freedom, and Buckle admitted he didn’t know exactly how Liam Daish would approach the encounter - but in some – ways he doesn’t care.

Speaking yesterday he added: “I just see it as being another really difficult game. There’s never an easy game anywhere in football, not at all in any division.

“I see it as being a really tough game, a big challenge for us, but one we are looking forward to and we are up to it.

“The boys have come in bright again today and trained really well and we know it’s a massive game for us and we’ve got to go all out to take three points.

“I’ve come across Liam a number times. He will have his team going all out for the win so there will be no holding back.

“It’s really important that we think about ourselves. It’s really important that we understand what we are and who we are and what we want to do.

“And that’s the thing I’m pushing home to the players.

“Honestly I don’t know what to expect from another manager’s team. You get a match report, we do our homework on them.

“But it shouldn’t matter in many ways and that’s no disrespect to any other club, it shouldn’t matter.

“The minute you start taking your eye off your own team you are paying too much respect to the opposition.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, we know every team comes to Luton to put men behind the ball, frustrate us, try and get our own crowd on our back.

“It’s not going to happen, the team’s going to go out, we’re going to get on the front foot, we’re going to get after teams and make it hard for them.

“That’s the key, we’re going to make it hard for them first and foremost. Try and get the first goal and kick on and try and get the second, third and fourth goals like we done in the last home game.

“The players must take all the credit at the moment for turning things around.

“I’ve been brought in to do a job, of course I have. But I’m only as good as those boys out there and they’ve stepped forward and I don’t want to hold them back now, I want them to keep going for it.”
