It was reported that Bird and his team spent Tuesday doing everything they could to ensure the pitch was playable for the televised clash.

They then worked tirelessly on it before the game and during half time, as Luton picked up a vital 2-1 win to extend their gap over Cambridge to four points.

Still said: “Every credit and it’s this thing I have about team as everyone’s had to play their part.

“We could be lucky enough to get promotion this year and win it by three points and look back and go, remember the groundstaff who were part of our team.

“They went out there and got our pitch ready for that game, that’s the key isnt it.

“Everybody’s got to do their bit to try and help us achieve success.”

On whether actually finishing the game would have any adverse affect on the playing surface in future matches, Still added: “That falls into the category of when I do my groundsman’s course, I’ll be able to tell you.

“But I can’t tell you because you’re going to have to ask people with more knowledge than me.”
