Hatters go to the Wall with new signing

Target man Alex Wall has become new Town boss John Still first signing today (Friday).

The 6ft 3ins striker was February’s Blue Square Bet South player of the month after banging in five goals.

Wall has on-loan until the rest of the season with a view to a permanent deal from Maidenhead United.

Still said: “I had Alex on trial last year at Dagenham but he got injured. He went back to Maidenhead and has done well. I’ve always kept an eye on him.

“He’s a young, ambitious, hungry player with great ability. Alex will need time and help, but he has terrific potential. I hope he’ll go onto a enjoy a very good career at Luton Town.

“He’s what you might call a centre-forward. He’s not a ‘striker’ or a ‘number 10’, he’s a centre-forward. He’s a good striker of the ball, he’s strong and he works hard.

“Alex is in good form, but the key for me is potential. He has the the potential to be a really, really good player.”

The 22-year-old Wall has hit a total of 13 goals this season for the Magpie and has also been courted by several Football League clubs.

With strikers Jon Shaw (hamstring) and Scott Rendell injured and Andre Gray struggling with illness, Wall goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game at Stockport.

The former Thatcham Town forward has been handed squad number 26.
