Hatters fight back to draw with Leyton Orient

Desperate for some competitive football, Luton Town U18s switched their Youth Alliance home game to Leyton Orient on Saturday as they fought back in the second half to earn a creditable 2-2 draw with goals from Zane Banton and Charlie Smith.

Boss Paul Driver said: “I was really pleased with the lads. We didn’t deserve to be two goals down at half time and we were superb in the second half as we worked our socks off to get something from the game.”

Leeroy Maguraushe was denied by a smart reflex save from the Orient keeper, but it was the hosts who took the lead on 12 minutes with a goal from 10 yards past Josh Carpenter.

A teasing Maguraushe cross eluded everyone including Arel Amu’s late run at the far post, but Orient doubled their lead with a good strike from outside the box. Maguraushe had an excellent chance to halve the deficit just before half time but dragged his shot wide.

With the aid of the wind, the Hatters were the stronger side in the second half and almost pulled a goal back on 61 minutes but Jemale McKenzie-Lowe blasted just wide.

Banton then ran clear and finished neatly and the equaliser followed in the 79th minute when Charlie Smith burst into the box to poke home.

Hatters: Carpenter, Burtenshaw, Davison (Chabata 72), Rees, Jules, Longden (C), Amu, Smith, McKenzie-Lowe (Trottman 69), Banton, Maguraushe. Subs not used: Barnes, Hawkes.
