Hatters expect to announce new signing

TOWN are expected to announce the signing of striker Andre Gray from Blue Square Bet North side Hinckley United in time for Saturday’s match with Grimsby Town, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 21-year-old has scored 21 goals for the Knitters this season, and impressed against Hatters twice in the FA Trophy, only being denied a goal by two oustanding displays from Town keeper Mark Tyler.

Gray started his career at Shrewsbury Town and made five substitute appearances in League Two and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

He was loaned to AFC Telford and Hinckley, before making his move to the Greene King Stadium permanent in May 2010.

The striker is also said to be interesting a number of Championship sides too as Knitters manager Dean Thomas said: “Andre has gone to Luton to discuss terms with them.

“We’ve agreed a fee with them but there are other clubs interested.

“Watford and Scunthorpe have expressed an interest but they’ve not made a bid.

“Andre might have played his last game for us but we’ll wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Town trialist Omar Bogle, formerly of Birmingham City and Celtic, played for Hinckley in their 2-1 defeat to Solihull Borough on Monday, a game in which Gray netted.
