Hatters duo laud ‘incredible’ Kenilworth Road crowd

TOWN boss Paul Buckle and striker Andre Gray were left in awe of the Kenilworth Road crowd as Luton took a firm grip on their play-off semi-final against Wrexham yesterday evening, writes Mike Simmonds.

Over 9,000 crammed into the stadium, with the home fans creating an absolutely electric atmposphere from start to finish.

Buckle said: “The atmosphere was incredible. I’ve got to say, to manage in that sort of environment was fantastic, it’s why I came to the club.

“I thought the fans were exceptional and hope they have all gone away happy.”

For Gray, who scored his sixth goal in 10 games and was afforded a standing ovation by the home faithful when he went off late on, it’s been some step up from playing in front of under 200 for Blue Square North side Hinckley just a few months ago.

He said: “I thought against Kidderminster, the crowd were amazing, but it blew me away.

“I was a bit starstruck when I was walking out. The buzz they created was absolutely fantastic.”

The striker is swiftly becoming a crowd favourite at Kenilworth Road now too, with supporters even having their own song for the speedster, and it was sung from the rafters on Thursday night.

Gray added: “I don’t know how to take it. I’ve just got to strive a bit more, it gives me the confidence to push on and not slow down.”
