Charles had to be helped from the field after injuring his shoulder in a clash in Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat of Salisbury City.

“I had to make a change during the game as well because Charlo’s shoulder is a problem,” said Still.

“I think it’s surgery, I’m not 100 per cent sure yet, but I think it is, which I feel for him.

“I think there’s a little crack there, we’re not absolutely sure, but he’s gone to the hospital and we’ll have to have a look.”

On why he had preferred Charles to young defender Alex Lacey who started at the weekend, Still continued: “I think with Lacey he did brilliant pre-season, he found it tough Saturday and I just felt the little bit of experience was the right thing to do today.

“But we haven’t conceded today so I’m happy defensively.”

Meanwhile, striker Shaw played through the pain barrier and Still is concerned it could be a hernia problem.

He added: “Jon’s got a problem, it might be a hernia, we’re not 100 per cent sure. We’re going to get that looked at.

“He was sore Saturday, but he wasn’t sore today. I’ve known players that have played a long while with hernias so it’s not the be all and end all if I’m being honest.

“But I think it was important that we didn’t play Jon on Saturday because it could have made it a lot worse.

“He was better today, let’s see how he goes on from there, but we need to have a look at it.”
