Hatters chief demands away improvement at Barrow

Town boss Paul Buckle has urged his side to turn round their poor Blue Square Bet Premier away form starting at Barrow tomorrow, writes Mike Simmonds.

Luton haven’t tasted victory on their league travels since the 2-1 win at Forest Green Rovers on October 27, with two draws and three defeats in that time.

Buckle said: “Our away form was excellent, our home form was a bit patchy and now it’s sort of role reversed.

“If we can marry the two together, we need grit and determination away from home, with Steve (McNulty), we can start getting the balance right.
“Everything that’s gone before has gone, the good and bad is history, I’m not interested in that. All I’m interested in is Barrow on Saturday and we’ve got to mean business.”

Although Luton hammered Barrow 6-1 in their last meeting recently, the Bluebirds have improved since, picking up a shock 2-0 victory at Newport County.

Town will firm favourites, but Buckle had a note of caution as he added: “I’m sure since Luton have been in the Conference, they’ve been expected to win every game, but that’s not happened because we’re still in the Conference.

“My job is get us out of the Conference, I don’t want to mess around and tiptoe around, we need a mixture of skill, grit, ruggedness, all of those things.

“We need to get some real nastiness to our game, be really up for it.

“There’s not a lot wrong with Barrow from what I’ve seen recently. They’ve been to Newport and beat them so we don’t need any reminder.

“Luton don’t get an easy game, we don’t go into a game light hearted or you’ll come unstuck.”
