Hatters character impresses Brabin

LUTON Town boss Gary Brabin praised his side’s character as they continued their unbeaten start to the season by beating Braintree Town 3-1 at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Hatters took an early lead through Amari Morgan-Smith, before Ben Wright levelled after 20 minutes.

A quickfire double just before half time ensured Luton took the points though as Morgan-Smith followed up when his own penalty was saved to score and Jake Howells then notched his first of the season.

Brabin said: “I’m delighted with the three points and the performance, I thought we played really well.

“Braintree are a really tough side, previous results will show they’re a real tough side to beat.

“I thought we started the game really bright and got the goal through Amari, then another one you fancy Danny Crow to bury, but that wasn’t the case.

“I was disappointed and felt we switched off a little bit when the decision didn’t go our way, it was an obvious incident in the corner, but we have to play to the whistle in that situation and we let them get back into it at 1-1.

“But I thought we showed a bit of character, a lot of energy and won 3-1, so a lot of credit to the players.

“Credit to Braintree too, even at 3-1, I never completely thought that the game was over. I thought they made it difficult for us, they’re a big strong side.”

Iron boss Alan Devonshire was disappointed with his own side’s showing as he said afterwards: “We didn’t pass the ball at all well. The midfield didn’t do as well as they’ve been doing.

“We started okay first 10-15 minutes, but after that we stopped slowing the game down. We’ve got to play to our strengths, credit to Luton, but I was disappointed with us and that’s the worst we’ve played all season.”
