Hatters chairman: York tie was ‘inevitable’

BEING paired with arch nemesis York City in the semi-finals of the FA Trophy was almost inevitable for the Hatters according to chairman Nick Owen, writes Mark Wood.

The two clubs have enjoyed a tempestuous relationship over the last three seasons and Owen hopes that the added ‘needle and spice’ will make for a cracking tie and atmosphere, but that the rivalry won’t boil over.

He said: “It’s a cracking tie.

“There’s so many connections. Gary Brabin’s incident up there and Alex Lawless’ incident with his fist. The drubbing we got up there in the league and the defeat in the play-off semi-final.

“The controversy of the snow and then how their keeper got sent off in the game we won 5-0.

“It was almost inevitable we would get drawn against York.”
