Hatters boss warns no room for error against Harriers

HATTERS boss Paul Buckle has admitted there is no room for error when his side take on Kidderminster Harriers at Kenilworth Road this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

Victory would see Town leapfrog their opponents and move back into the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs with just two games remaining.

Buckle said: “There is no room for error anywhere. No room for error on the training field, there never is, but at this stage of the season, we’ve got to be on top of everything.

“I know the other night against Ebbsfleet was a potential banana skin, but the players were very aggressive in their approach and we’ve got to be no different on Saturday.

“We’ve got to make the ground up, we’re very aware of that but at the same time, it’s a game we’re looking forward to.

“It has to mean everything, because if it does, we’ve got a chance, only a chance of getting where we want to be.

“We still need a bit of luck, but I’m hoping we’ll get a bit of luck on Saturday and things go for us, because on Tuesday night I don’t think anything went for us.

“I didn’t want the players to be too tense (against Ebbsfleet) and told them to go and give it everything they’ve got and it will be no different.

“It’s our duty to go out and impress. We need to have that work ethic straight away. Seven goals in two games is great stuff, as now we’re getting after teams.

“I go on about fitness levels and I think we’ve now got a really, really fit Luton Town team.

“We’re going to be hard to contain and that’s something we’re going to look to do again from minute one to minute 90 on Saturday. If we can do that we’ll be difficult to beat.

“It’s a fantastic feeling when you win and that’s what it’s all about.”

Whether the game is a so-called must win encounter though, Buckle continued: “I don’t know. You don’t know what’s going to happen.

“The most important thing is our performance levels are where they were on Tuesday night as I think we’re capable of beating anyone.

“We’re concentrating solely on us. We’ve had some good sessions.

“Seven points from three games is a fantastic return after the amount of change at the club.

“With a new manager coming in, with new ideas and having to lift the place because it was in a bad place, eight games without a win, we’ve turned it round very quickly.

“The players and staff deserve plenty of credit for that and the supporters because we’ve pulled together and I’ve been thrilled with what I’ve seen so far.”

After Kidderminster, Hatters travel to Gateshead and Fleetwood, with Luton possibly needing to win all three matches to be assured of a play-off place.

Buckle isn’t looking that far ahead though as he added: “Without being boring, it is just about this game for us.

“If we had lost against Ebbsfleet then with York winning, where would that leave you? But we didn’t, we concentrated solely on that game. There was no talk about play-offs, nothing else, just winning that game.

“The focus has to be on Kidderminster. We need a desire, a passion to go and win that game, and we’ll be in a lot better position if we win that game.

“So that’s the focus, what happens after that is irrelevant.”
