Hatters boss thrilled as returning players come through Royals test

Happy Hatters boss John Still was ‘over the moon’ as his development side put a Reading XI to the sword 4-1 on the 4G pitch at the Madejski Stadium on Monday, writes Mark Wood.

He said: “We played good opposition in conditions that I think can only be described as atrocious.”

But the biggest bonus for the Town boss was seeing the likes of Solomon Taiwo, Anthony Charles and Jon Shaw back in action.

“It’s what we’ve been talking about for the last two weeks, we know they’re coming back, but it’s how they get back,” he said.

“But they’ve got back in reasonably good condition by the looks of it so it’s very encouraging.

“We’ve done really well and what’s been pleasing is that people who have been injured have got games in, most notably Solomon Taiwo, who I thought was outstanding today.

“Jon Shaw got half an hour so that’s good. Anthony Charles got a full game, that’s good, Kane Ferdinand got a full game, so that’s good, Shaun Whalley, full game, so really, really pleased with the fact that people have got some game time in and also over the moon with the performance, 4-1 at Reading - it’s been a fantastic performance today.”

The match also provided new Peterborough United loan signing Kane Ferdinand with the chance to get to know his new-mates better.

Still added: “It was an absolutely ideal opportunity for him. He came in on Friday, hadn’t trained with us, didn’t know anyone, but got a bit of a game on Saturday.

“It gave him an opportunity to get to know one or two faces, some training this week will help him so that’s very encouraging.”
