Hatters boss Still hopeful Wall and Stevenson injuries are not too severe

Striker Wall, nicknamed the ‘Tin Man’ after struggling to adapt to the rigours of full-time football, pulled up holding his hamstring after only a couple minutes, while two-goal midfielder Stevenson left the field on crutches midway through the second half.

Town chief John Still though is hopeful Stevenson’s withdrawal would turn out to be precautionary, as he said: “I think it’s only impact. I don’t think that will be anything that will be a problem.

“I think that was just an impact thing. He got his weight off of it, but it looks OK.”

And on Wall’s, he continued: “We thought it was his hamstring, we’re not exactly sure it is, it might have come from his back.

“We’ll know a bit more tomorrow, I don’t think it’s a bad injury.”

Town put in an impressive display on fireworks night as Stevenson netted with rockets after 16 and 30 minutes as he showed a real eye for goal on the night.

Still was delighted with the way his side played though against a Hammers side that included first-teamers George McCartney and Alou Diarra.

He said: “For West Ham to bring a team here and play under the lights in the stadium, brilliant.

“We had quite a young team, and so did they, littered with one or two experienced players, West Ham with Diarra and McCartney.

“I think most of ours were 21-22 and under. It was a great workout and I’m really, really pleased, it was good all round.

“Forget results, I’m not interested in results, but some really good performances. Jim Stevenson, Mark Cullen, I thought were really good.

“Solomon Taiwo, Matt Robinson, I thought we had some really good performances today.”

But Still added: “I think it’s really important in these games we don’t get carried away with results, it’s nice to win, particularly when you’re playing a Premier League club.

“It’s nice to win, but it’s not the most important thing. The most important thing is development and we are seeing some of our young players really develop at the moment and I’m really pleased with them.”
