With Luton already crowned Skrill Premier champions, goals from Mark Cullen and Andre Gray were enough for a hard-fought victory over the Wings.

The post-match huddle was then interrupted by a pitch invasion from Town’s joyous fans, who celebrated long after the game with the players and management.

Still said: “That was good natured and Welling were very, very good about it and it was a perfect end to a perfect week for us.

“I’ve come to realise what it means to the supporters here, it was a fantastic opportunity for supporters and players to enjoy the occasion, so was really happy with that.

“It’s been an amazing week since Tuesday, there must be a word that means more than hectic and that’s the word.

“Phonecalls and texts and just people you see at the training ground and ground, it’s been absolutely amazing, but I have to say, that this is what this club has waited for and the players have delivered it for them.

“Not just the players, everyone connected with the playing side, they’ve been fantastic.

“Early season we really got the support behind us, and that’s one of the qualities we’ve got is the team ethic.”

On the game itself, Still was pleased his side hadn’t gone the way of other sides when they have just won the trophy as he continued: “The first game after we won this league with Dagenham we got beat 5-1, I see Leicester the other day, the first day they won their championship, got beat 4-1.

“So that was always on my mind and I know to a greater extend that no-one would have been bothered.

“But I said to the players, we’ve still got things we can achieve, we can still get 100 goals, 100 points, can get a record clean sheets, we can become the team with the least goals against as well.

“So there’s still things that would be good to look back at the season to not just say we were champions, but we broke records as well, and so we’ve got a couple of games to go to hone in on a couple of records.”

Hatters will be presented with the trophy after tomorrow’s home match with Forest Green Rovers and Still is expecting quite a party.

He added: “Whenever you pick up a trophy it’s special, this time will be special, it’s just fantastic and I’m really really honoured to be manager at this time.”
