Hatters boss delighted by Wolves draw

Drawing Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday was the next best thing to a Premier League club according to Hatters boss Paul Buckle, writes Mark Wood.

The Championship strugglers will visit Kenilworth Road on the weekend of January 5 and 6, with Buckle saying: “I’m really excited we’re at home. I think that’s always the first thing that you want.

“I don’t know too much about them (Wolves), when that game approaches hopefully we’ll have a free week so we can do our homework on them.

“There’s a lot of games to be played for us and them before we meet.

“It’s one we can really look forward to and we’ve earnt the right to be in the third round.

“We all were looking for a Premiership club like every non-league club would be looking for, but I think we’ve got the next best thing.

“We’ve got a big, big club, who have been there at that level and it will be a massive challenge for everyone.”

With £67,500 in prize money up for grabs and a big gate expected, progression provides a lucrative carrot for the Hatters.

Buckle added: “I think we know what the prize money’s been in the last two rounds, really good prize money.

“It’s a home tie, I think it’s split, but I think there’ll be a massive crowd, I really do. It’s not very far away, it’s not far for them to travel.

“If we can pull off a draw, you’ve got to be very careful you don’t sound disrespectful, but anything can happen in the cup as we know and as happened already in years gone by.

“When it comes around we will prepare right and we’re really looking forward to that.”
