Hatters bin ‘microwave’ approach to ‘bake’ future success

Hatters managing director Gary Sweet is looking for new manager John Still to ‘bake’ success rather than ‘microwave’ it instantly, writes Mark Wood.

Sweet admitted it has been something of a learning curve finding out how to run a football club, rather than just a business.

He said: “Yes I suppose there’s been a change, not necessarily a conscious one, but a conscious realisation of the fact that maybe what we should have done three years ago, four years ago, is to tell people this is going to be a four-year project.

“It won’t take that long this time around. What we have to do is just take our foot off the accelerator a little bit.

“We can’t microwave it we’ve got to bake it.

“I’ve had four-and-a-half years in football now, five years including the administration.

“So we are learning about it. Even in three years times we’ll probably behave differently because we’re still learning.”
