The 18-year-old, who has been with the club since the age of nine, captained Hatters’ youth team last season, netting 10 goals in 17 starts for Paul Driver’s side.

Smith, who has made three appearances for Town’s first team, also had an impressive spell at Calor Southern League Premier Division side Hitchin Town towards the end of last campaign, where he was a regular for the Canaries.

He has now penned a one year deal and Town boss John Still told the club’s official website: “Charlie impressed me a great deal last season.

“Technically he is a very, very good player and I am excited when I see him on the ball.

“His passing and leadership ability make him a very influential player.

“The hard work for Charlie starts now, though, and we are looking forward to seeing Charlie continue his development.”
