Griffiths wants a proper performance from Town

Hatters defender Scott Griffiths is hopeful Town can produce a ‘proper’ performance when they take on Skrill Premier leaders Cambridge United at Kenilworth Road this afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

Luton have failed to impress in both home matches so far this season, as although they gained a last-minute draw against Macclesfield, they were booed off by some sections of supporters.

On the challenge of Cambridge, Griffiths said: “They’re all going to be tough. We’re not going to take any of them as if they’re an easy three points.

“Teams do that and they’ll find themselves slipping down the league as they’ve taken things for granted. The more games you play, if you play well, the faster you can get momentum going, get points on the board and get good performances in.

“Personally I can’t remember who the top teams are to be playing against. None of the boys are going to take it as this team’s better than this team.

“We’ll do our jobs and all make sure we get round each and make sure we take each game as it comes.

“We’ll give everything for each other. I think that’s the most important thing. To give a proper family team performance as if your life depends on it, that sort of thing.”

Griffiths had been more impressed with Town’s efforts during their 0-0 draw at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, especially a second shut out from four games.

He added: “I was pleased with the performance in comparison to our other performances. I thought we worked hard, very hard for each other and played a bit better than we had done.

“The clean sheet is a great bonus, we didn’t score, had a goal disallowed, but I think the focus should be on a clean sheet. The boys all pulled round for each other and in the end away to Forest Green who are a decent side, it’s a good result.

“I have to be honest, before the game, not that I said it to anybody else, I was thinking to myself, this could quite easily be a 0-0 draw, because both teams are going to be a little bit, we need some points.

“Despite how people thought, I wanted to go for it, I wanted to win. I had a little feeling it was going to be a very tight game and it was.”
