Griffiths confirms interest in staying with Luton

Full back Scott Griffiths would be interested in staying at Kenilworth Road beyond the end of the season if the deal is right, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 27-year-old penned a short term contract in March which runs out after the final match at Southport next weekend

Although boss John Still has made it clear he wants to keep the player he had at Dagenham & Redbridge for six years, discussions have yet to start as Griffiths said: “I’d be interested definitely.

“Without sounding funny, Stilly will tell you as well, the deal needs to be right for a player and club.

“No-one’s said anything at the moment. We spoke briefly when I signed until the end of the season.

“At the moment, I haven’t actually spoken to him, we might speak before the last game of the season maybe, but it’s just about getting some more wins.

“If everything’s okay, we’ll discuss it. I know that he wants to get promoted, I know I want to be part of a side that wins promotion, twice if possible, looking too far into the future maybe, but it’s something I’m definitely interested in.”

Signing permanently for a manager who already is well aware of his qualities is appealing to Griffiths as he said: “It’s good to know that little things, like if I sign to know exactly what the pre-season’s going to be.

“I know how to prepare for it and know how to prepare for the games too.

“It’s nice to know he trusts what I do. He had me for six years before at Dagenham so he knows I’ve got the ability to play at this level and higher leagues.”

Griffiths, who was released by Peterborough in January and made his full Town debut on Tuesday, doesn’t look on his move to Luton as kickstarting his career once again as he added: “I wouldn’t say (I’m getting) back on track. I don’t really think I got that far off.

“I believe that there were a couple of decisions that were made for me that were bad decisions and that were shown to be bad decisions by the back-tracking that the people had to make over why they didn’t want to play me.

“They rate you up until, without wanting to make it sound a bit of a funny subject, until they come to discuss a contract.

“Then they don’t want to know and would rather get someone in to do half the job for half the pay.

“If that’s what they want to do I’ll go and find another club like Luton and do my best there.”
