The 21-year-old was named captain after coming on at half-time and proceeded to set up one, win a penalty, and then score the sixth in injury time.

England were always in control, taking the lead through Antoni Sarcevic, as the Chester City man finished well.

Hereford’s Marlon Jackson added the second on 21 minutes when he converted a penalty after Wrexham’s John Hunt was fouled in the box.

Bermuda pulled one back on the stroke of half time as Reggie Lamb’s fierce drive was saved by Preston Edwards, only for John Barry Nusum to head in the rebound

Once Gray took to the pitch in the second half and was handed the armband, the floodgates opened as Town’s hottest property saw his inch-perfect cross headed home by Forest Green Rovers striker James Norwood.

Norwood then notched his second of the night and completed his hat-trick from the spot after Gray had been brought down in the area.

Gray was on the scoresheet late on too as he converted from close range for his second international goal.

Afterwards, Gray tweeted: “Wow.. Buzzin to captain the 2nd half tonight for england and to top it off with a goal was even more special.”

Meanwhile, Three Lions boss Paul Fairclough added: “It was a fantastic performance and I’m very proud of the players.”
