Gray reveals pressure players are under to win promotion

AMBITIOUS Hatters players are putting even more pressure on themselves to be a success because they want promotion back to the Football League so badly, writes Mark Wood.

Livewire striker Andre Gray revealed Town’s desperation to be a success is matched by the expectation of the players themselves after they missed out on promotion last week following their 2-1 defeat to York City at Wembley.

Gray, who is one of eight new faces in the England C squad named to face Russia in Group A of the International Challenge Trophy at the Arena Khimki, home of Dynamo Moscow FC, on Tuesday, said: “Because of the recent three play-offs we haven’t won it puts a lot of pressure on us.

“The pressure isn’t on them (York) as much to win because of the size of club.

“It’s not as easy as it sounds, just because we are a big club to get promoted, I just think it’s always in the back of people’s heads.

“We put added pressure on ourselves because we want it that bad. I don’t think the fans realise how bad we want it.”
