Gray not looking to step up to the spot again after Rovers miss

Hatters striker Andre Gray admitted nerves got the better of him as he blasted a penalty miles over the bar in Town’s 1-1 home draw with promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

Having already scored the opening goal, and with Town’s regular penalty taker Scott Rendell on the bench, Town’s 12-goal leading marksman was keen to take on the responsibility.

But Gray failed to even hit the target and conceded he might not be cut out to be a regular from the spot after taking and missing his first competitive penalty.

The 21-year-old forward said: “Our main penalty taker is Rens, but I was working on penalties after training yesterday for some reason.

“I felt confident I could take it but I think the pressure got to me a little bit.”
