Gray: It was an easy decision to sign on at Luton

Hungry young Hatters striker Andre Gray has promised signing a new contract extension won’t change him, writes Mark Wood.

Gray penned a one-year extension to his deal on Monday and admitted it was an easy decision to make.

He said: “I always said that January is never a good time to leave when you are doing well so it was an easy decision for me.

“It wouldn’t have changed me in any way if I didn’t get it either.”

The 21-year-old striker has been in impressive form this season, netting 11 times, and his performances are sure to have alerted clubs at a higher level.

But he is focused on achieving promotion with the Hatters and is not letting the speculation distract him.

“I’m trying to be humble and get my head down and whatever will come will come if I keep working hard,” he said.

“I’m still young, it could affect me because of my age, but I’m strong-minded and I know better not to let things get to me.

“I’m at Luton, they’ve given me a massive opportunity last year to come here so I’m trying to give something back. My main target is to get promoted with the club.”

Manager Paul Buckle was delighted to have tied down the future of the £30,000 Hinckley signing as he said: “I think it’s brilliant for our club that Andre has committed.

“Getting him signed up is what me, the supporters, everybody wanted to hear. There’s been a lot of speculation around him and rightly so.

“He showed (against Telford) when he cut inside and struck it why there’s been so many people talking about him. I’m absolutely thrilled he’s signed.”

Gray was buffeted from pillar to post on the night and though disappointed not to score, was pleased with a clean sheet.

He added: “They didn’t have any chances, so I think from a defensive point of view it was good, but the ball just wouldn’t go in for us.

“First half was just about settling into the game and probably figuring out how they were going to come at us.

“So it was a slow start from us but we came out of the traps in the second half and the keeper’s made two great saves from me.”
