Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson was in the stands at Kenilworth Road during pre-season and had been linked with a move for the livewire striker, while Micky Adams, boss of League One Port Vale, was also in attendance last week during the 2-0 home win over Salisbury City.

Gray said: “I want to play at the highest level so to get linked with clubs like Peterborough and things like that and the Championship it’s obviously flattering because that’s where I want to be at some point in my career.

“I don’t know when it’s going to be, whether it’s going to happen or whatever’s going to happen with me in the future.

“But it’s obviously flattering and just drives me to work even harder.”
