Goalscoring midfielder Stevenson so close to dream Hatters debut

A Jim Stevenson rocket was inches away from giving the Hatters victory over Grimsby Town on Saturday as the 21-year-old midfielder made his Luton debut as a half time substitute, writes Mark Wood.

The onrushing former Histon man was teed up by striker Paul Benson on 74 minutes but his low daisycutter fizzed just wide.

The goalscoring midfielder was the Stutes’ leading scoring last season with 11 goals in Conference North and admitted: “It did look in.

“I saw the replay when we came in as well and at one point it did look like it was heading in, but it just faded away.”
